Beth E. Schueler is an Associate Professor of Education and Public Policy at the University of Virginia (UVA). Dr. Schueler studies education policy, politics, and inequality with a focus on efforts to improve K-12 schools and school systems that have been labelled as low performing. Much of her work has focused on education governance reforms, such as the impact of state takeovers of school districts on student academic outcomes and education finance. She also examines public opinion and the political dynamics of school and district improvement. This work has been published in outlets such as the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Political Research Quarterly, Education Finance and Policy, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Educational Researcher, and Educational Administration Quarterly. Prior to joining the faculty at UVA, Schueler was a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She holds a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Teachers College, and a doctoral degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
