Scott Marion, Ph.D., Executive Director of the National Center for the Improvement ofEducational Assessment, is a national leader in conceptualizing and designing innovative andbalanced assessment systems and accountability reform to support instructional and other criticaluses. Dr. Marion is a member of the National Academy of Education and serves on the NationalAssessment Governing, overseeing the National Assessment of Educational Progress. Hecoordinates and/or serves on ten state or district Technical Advisory Committees (TAC) forassessment and accountability.
His research focuses on validity, implementing balanced assessment systems, andconceptualizing the instructional usefulness of assessments. Dr. Marion co-edited the recentlypublished Reimaging Balanced Assessment Systems and co-authored UnderstandingInstructionally Useful Assessments. Dr. Marion is a co-author of the validity chapter in theforthcoming volume of Educational Measurement and has published dozens of articles in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes. Scott received a Ph.D. from the University of ColoradoBoulder with a concentration in Measurement and Evaluation.
