Paul Bruno is an assistant professor of education policy, organization and leadership in the College of Education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He studies school staff labor markets, resource allocation in schools, and school personnel administration. He has recently conducted studies of school staff vacancy rates at the state, school district, and school levels; of the effects of hiring and assignment practices on teacher retention; and of school districts’ use of compensation to attract teachers. His work has been published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals, including Educational Administration Quarterly, Review of Public Personnel Administration, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, and the Labor Studies Journal. He holds a Ph.D. in urban education policy and an MA in economics from the University of Southern California, as well as an MA in science and math education and a BA in philosophy and molecular and cell biology from the University of California, Berkeley.
